Tauba celebrates Easter in style

TAUBA School of Excellence successfully hosted its inaugural soccer knock-out and mini-games during the Easter Monday.

The tournament was organised by the founders of the Tauba School of Excellence, Francis Aruwafu and his partner Agnes.

Reports reaching Star Sports said it was a day filled with joy, happiness and represented what Easter is all about - being together as one family enjoying what our Lord Jesus Christ has given and provided for our families and children.

The day started at 8am with many activities and games such as tug-o-war, kicking-a-soccer ball through tyres, 3 legged races, blindfold cutting games.  

Every winner received a prize and then throughout the day there was colouring in, face painting and a writing Easter competition.  

The activities were specifically for all the children in the Tauba School of Excellence but all other children in the surrounding areas were welcome to join in the morning festivities.  

Prizes of twisties, lollies, exercise books, pencils, RAMSI wrist bands, RAMSI toothbrush/toothpaste, RAMSI brush/mirrors were handed out to all the children.  

Just before lunch the dads and mum’s were also able to join the ‘soccer kicking’ competition to win a prize too. 

A lunch of rice/taiyo was provided for the children before the start of the soccer-knock out in the afternoon.

There were 6 boys teams and 4 girls teams.  A total of 10 teams .  

The curtain raiser game was between two teams made of up children not in the School of Excellence but as young as 5 years old from the community.  

Sponsor money and goods received were used to fully equip the Tauba SOE with more bibs, uniforms, soccer balls, soccer goal net, stop watch.

The prizes are:

1st Boys team –“Veterans” WINNERS trophy + $20 each +colouring pencils, toothbrush/toothpaste, brush/mirror.

1st Girls team – “Mortley Crew” WINNERS trophy + $20 each + colouring pencils, toothbrush/toothpaste, brush/mirror.

2nd Girl/Boy Teams Prize - $15 each  & pencil, sharpener, eraser, exercise book

3rd Girl/Boy Prize $10 each +pencil, sharpener, eraser, exercise book

4th Girl/Boy prize $8 +pencil, sharpener, eraser, exercise book

5th Boy prize $6 + pencil, sharpener, eraser, exercise book

6th Boy prize $5 + pencil, sharpener, eraser, exercise book   

The officials – referee, linesmen & officials who helped during the entire day were also acknowledged.   

Furthermore two guests, a couple from Australia Aaron & Erica who were visiting the Lagoon Dweller's Resthouse joined in the festivities and helped out during mini-games.  

In the middle of the day a couple of RAMSI police officers also visited the mini-games and provided a volley net to the facilitator of the Tauba School of Excellence, Paul Diau.

The day opened and closed with a prayer said by Dominic, the Tauba Community Church leader as the Catechist was attending a very important Parish meeting.  

This Easter Mini-Games was a huge success and the organisers are planning to hold one every two years.

The cash donations were used as cash prizes for the soccer knock-out and were used to purchase the following items for the Easter Mini Games from: Lili Sports – stopwatch, orange bibs, red bibs, soccer goal net and two additional match balls; Gaoming – 2 soccer balls; Rainbow shop (Chinatown) – 2 boys uniforms (light blue and navy blue) with shorts, sports bag; Auspac – pencils, sharpeners, erasers, exercise books, face paints, educational charts and ABA Store/CDL Store – twisties, lollies, washing powder; Easy Trading(Auki) – rice and taiyo.
