MARRIAGE is a holy sacrament not seriously respected by youths nowadays thus contributes to the many social problems among youths.
Visale parish newly elected Catechist executive discussed the issue in their first meeting after election on 9 April 2010.
The new executive headed by Albert Haikalea, acknowledged that the issue is becoming a problem that the church needs to resolve.
“Newly wed couples nowadays especially, need to be well versed with life after marriage, but what we are concern with is keeping the holy sacrament of marriage,” Mr Haikalea said.
“Most young people normally have a child or more before they decided to get married which is a total breach of this holy sacrament.”
Mr Haikalea said most young people nowadays fail to realise the importance of marriage which normally leads to divorce.
“This is one root cause of the many social problems with young people in our societies. Therefore we want to put forward this idea for other church elders to look into.
“When there is failure to recognise the importance of marriage, the result is broken marriage which causes uncertainty to young people and children caught in the chaos.
“When children were brought up with the care of their grandfathers and grandmothers instead of their immediate parents, the fatherly and motherly love and advices are absent thus encouraged the cycle of social problems to pass on.”
The new executive plans to look deeper into the issue and address it among other agendas set for this year.
The election saw 20 new catechists into Visale parish.
