FORMER politician Danny Philip is seeking re-election when he leads his newly-established party in this year’s election.

Mr Philip said he will launch his new party, Reform and Democratic Party of Solomon Islands (RDP-SI), this Sunday at the Multipurpose hall in Honiara.

A former MP for South New Georgia Rendova Tetepare, Mr Philip is leading the party as its interim president.

He said his party is confident to win a good number of seats to form the next coalition government.

"The policies of the party are timely, relevant and must be implemented at such a time as this when the country is entering a very critical threshold in post conflict situation in Solomon Islands,” Mr Philip said.

"Every concerned leader and citizen of Solomon Islands must be prepared to face the challenges of the country’s emerging problems," he said.

Mr Philip said his party has the vision to organise the Solomon Islands society in such a way that sustainable national unity and economic development becomes the resultant by-products of a reformed society.

The reform process, his party believes, is pivotal to the country’s socioeconomic and political stability and to pave the way forward for a more open and inclusive society.

Mr Philip says that social reforms are often difficult areas and consecutive governments since independence had either circumvent or avoid them and had failed to build policy regimes on because they are sensitive and less prone to accept change.

"This cannot be the case anymore.  Future governments must be brave to accept the challenge to organise society to avert future insurrections and social uprising events.

"We cannot go on and assume that economic development alone will foster sustainable national unity," he said.

"We have a country that is so diverse, so rich with culture, a young and vibrant human resource demography.

"Our country is naturally endowed with natural resources, the envy of other states in the region.  It deserves keeping," Mr Philip said.

Mr Philip said his party is comprised of a group of unassuming and simple people but committed to a definite political statement.

"Our vision and resolve is enshrouded and consummated through pragmatism and purposed to organise the Solomon Islands society and nation state through the introduction of legislative and prescriptive mechanisms to achieve these objectives," he said.

Mr Philip said the party is confident that the objectives are achievable given the willingness of Solomon Islanders to accept and adapt to change that they know will bring benefit to them.
