PRIME Minister Dr Derek Sikua says work on the Federal Constitution will not now finish this year as has been scheduled.
The Government had hoped the Federal Constitution could be ready for presentation to Parliament in November.
He told Parliament that because of ongoing resource constraints and the recent bad weather, the Constitutional Reform Unit will not be able to finish its work by the end of the year, but will continue next year.
Prime Minister Sikua said while the issue of cost is of concern, the constitutional reform is an important undertaking which must be approached with care and caution, as there are sensitive issues involved.
Meanwhile, Dr Sikua said the draft framework for the new federal constitution is now undergoing extensive provincial consultations.
He said these while speaking on his sine die motion in Parliament on April 15.
