DISABLED people in Choiseul, Western and Malaita will have the chance to use a wheel chair.

This followed the donation of 40 wheel chairs to the Ministry of Health and Medical Services yesterday.

ADRA (Adventist Development and Relief Agency) donated the wheel chairs, which will be distributed to the three provinces.

Community Based Rehabilitation Unit with the Ministry of Health will administer the distribution of the wheel chairs.

Its coordinator, Elsie Taloafiri, said disability people within the three provinces her unit identified and have their names of their list will receive the wheel chairs.

“Those we have their names with us have sent in their request a long time a go and they really need to have wheel chairs to move around,” she said.

She said ADRA stepped in just at the right time to help solve the problem.

Medical Superintendent Dr Cedric Alependava thanked ADRA for its timely intervention.

Dr Alependava said the ministry has recognised the need to assist people with disability.

“These wheel-chairs will improve the livelihood of recipients to move around easily,” he said.

ADRA director Barry Champman said his organisation is pleased to assist in this area.

Mr Chapman said that one of ADRA’s key priority areas is health.

He said he believes the wheel chairs will assist people with disability.
