THE Media Association of Solomon Islands (MASI) yesterday congratulated Island Sun newspaper on the launch of its new website.
MASI President George Herming said this latest development highlights another growth in the local media industry.
He said it is exciting to see local media organisations now publishing on the internet to disseminate news and information to new readers outside of Honiara.
Herming said the website will certainly enhance the readership of Island Sun, especially those who cannot read the organisation’s daily newspaper.
“I am proud that our media industry is expanding its outreach to people within and outside of Solomon Islands. This is a sign of growth and healthy democracy,” Mr Herming said.
The President added that the media plays an important role in promoting transparency and accountability and it is important that it reaches out to as many people as possible.
Mr Herming said the fact that Island Sun has started only three years ago as tri-weekly and subsequently became a daily newspaper and now publishes also on the internet is a milestone development.
