Court ordered Usa to disclose records on funds

While the outgoing members of parliament walkout with their heads held high from the recent controversial tranche of RCDF funds, the Northwest Guadalcanal MP is being pinned down.

The high court has given Mr Siriako Usa marching orders to produce details of how he spent public funds meant for the constituency.

Mr Usa have two weeks to set straight his records in preparation for May 13, a day of revelation for the MP.

Electorates and constituents of North West Guadalcanal are showing the way to go in ensuring their outgoing MP produces convincing records of how public funds for the constituency have been used.

Twenty people from the constituency teamed up to represent constituents in what they say a fair challenge for their MP to justify funds intended for the people.

They engaged global lawyers, from which Mr Tagini is taking care of their legal plight.

The matter was heard in the high court on April 29 before Justice David Chetwynd.

The defendant was not present during the hearing.

Justice Chetwynd in handing down his order said having heard Mr Tagini for the claimants and there being no appearance for the defendant, it is ordered that the defendant (Mr Usa) produce or disclose records including statements of accounts, financial reports and other documentary evidence by May 13 2010 showing how he (defendant) spent, used, managed or administered the RCDF, Millennium funds, Micro projects and Livelihood funds during his term as MP for Northwest Guadalcanal constituency.

This means in the next hearing on May 13, the MP must produce detail evidences of usage of the funds as ordered by the high court.

Constituents of Northwest Guadalcanal are just one of the many constituents throughout the country that are especially concern with the usage of these funds.

However these people decided not to allow the matter to slip through their fingers thus demand explanation from their MP through legal procedures.

Last month they approached Global Lawyers to sign the legal action demanding their MP Hon Siriako Usa to disclose how he used the funds.

The group said the national general election is looming and MPs especially their MP need to clear his name.

“Not only for our MP to clear his name but those funds belongs to the people and no tangible outcomes have been seen in our constituency for the past eight years,” they claimed.

They claim that the move to demand the disclosure from their MP is because all constituents are questioning each other on how and where the money is.

“We have all the rights to know how these funds were being used because we are the entitled recipients and the MPs are only responsible for their disbursement.”
