A MAJOR concert is being planned to be staged in July to support Atoifi Adventist Hospital and its nursing school.
The concert will be staged on Sunday 11th July at the Marantha Hall, Burns Creek east of Honiara.
The fundraising drive is part of Project Atoifi (PA) aimed at improving the services and facilities at the hospital.
Project Manager Brian Larwood last week said the project has many objectives, ranging from gathering toys for sick children recovering in the hospital, to sourcing much-needed operational medical equipment and helping build a new primary school at Atoifi.
He said the first-ever staged concert will go towards supporting the construction of a new primary school project and getting new medical equipments for the hospital.
About 60 students are currently enrolled at the nursing school.
Mr Larwood who first came to Solomon Islands January last year to help with the renovation of the Atoifi hospital said he had connection with Atoifi and would want to continue support the hospital and the people there on an going basis.
“It’s a commitment I have made to support the hospital and its people,” he said.
He spent last week in Honiara to help organize the concert and also struck up some deal with sponsors.
“I want to make this concert a big one for this hospital,” he said.
The concert is aiming to raise $350, 000 to help with the project.
The concert will feature some of the notable spiritual singing groups in Honiara such as Grace Singers and other youth groups.
He said apart from the spiritual a number of cultural performance will also be staged.
A health expo will also be staged during the concert day to allow public to check with their health and know their status.
Free will offerings will be given during the concert.
Food and drinks will also be on sale to support the concert, he said.
Mr Larwood who returns to Australia on Friday will return late June in time to prepare for the concert.
Accompanying him will be a ‘fly n build’ team from Australia to help build the new Atoifi primary school.
He has already sought sponsorship from a number of local companies.
Atoifi staff will also be part of the concert organization, the project boss said.
He appeals to any interested singing groups both spiritual and cultural to contact Samson Panda at the SDA mission to submit their names if they are interested to feature during the concert.
Mr Larwood is appealing to ex-Atoifi staff and students and people from east Kwaio to support the concert when it kicks off 5pm on Sunday 11th July.
While in Perth, Australia Mr Larwood will also organize his own fundraising towards the project.
The concert will be an annual one.
