Tribe launches constitution

THE Raunabasi Tribe in Walande, Malaita Province, has launched its first constitution at the Aviation Recreational Centre at Henderson on Sunday.

The ceremony was witnessed by the Raunabasi tribal members living in Honiara.

Father Patteson Colleridge Au, vice president of the association Anthony Saru and tribal member Derick Bilau jointly launched the constitution.

Raunabasi was the first tribe of Walande in Malaita to have done this.

About 100 tribal members witnessed the occasion.

Association Member, Michael Bilau Qwanafia said the constitution has been a blessing to the tribe.

"We thanked God for that," he said.

"By authority of our inherent rights as people within or of Raunabasi tribe at Walande Island, and acting within our valued and worthy customs and noble principles, we therefore do hereby now establish this association under the guiding hands of our God Almighty," he said.

The aim of the association is to promote the general welfare of all the people from Raunabasi.

Mr Qwanafia said: "The people of Raunabasi have been now under one umbrella of law as a guiding and leading law to bind them as one people.

"As it says, together we stand divided we fall, the constitution now legal in the act of law in Solomon Island."

He said the association will now start to work on its activities for the last remaining months of this year, and will implement its plan of action for its people.

"We people of Raunabasi tribe wish to thank the Government for recognising the association as a charitable organisation.

"And a huge thanks to the executive committee for your hard work in put together the constitution and also for the launching and blessing of the constitution.

"Lastly, for as people of the Raunabasi tribe, remember our dedication and commitment is very crucial as part of our contribution to the developments of the Association in the future," he said.
