North Vella women learn new life skills

WOMEN of north Vella concluded training on life skills and violence against women and children at Leona village, recently.

Thirty women attended the training, which was conducted by the Women’s Development Division.

The training was aimed at empowering rural women to participate equally in the development of their rhomes, groups, association and communities.

In the course of the training women were provided with life skills, livelihoods and rights of women and children to better mange their individual families, groups and associations.

The training was supported by North Vella La Vella MP Milner Tozaka, who was also behind the establishment of the North Vella Women’s Association.

According to the association, the training helped participants to become good leaders and managers in their communities.

The association said their next plan is to help members move into income generation.

Mr Tozaka thanked Women’s Development Division for helping those in his constituency with the training.

The MP said the association had since opened a bank account with ANZ to keep their money.

He added the association had also engaged in a ginger business project and already started marketing their products in Gizo and Honiara.

MrTozaka said the recent workshop had brought women to discuss various issues of common interests.

“The workshop had provided women the opportunity to learn new things in life,” he said.
