Never too late to honour mothers

MOTHER’S Day may have already been celebrated more than a week ago.

But for the disability students at San Isidro, Aruligo, west Guadalcanal, celebrating the day a week later is never too late.

Forty deaf and dumb students are currently attending the disability centre and on Sunday it was an exciting time for the student as they joined their parents and guardians to honour their mothers.

Br George, who looks after the school, said like any normal children, the students were excited to be part of the celebrations to say thank and honour their mothers.

He said the students rely on their parents for support and it’s only fitting that they honour their mothers on this occasion.

“And their mothers have played an important role to take care of them despite their disability,” he said.

The day was marked with the cutting of a mothers’ day cake, entertainment and feasting.

Guests from the education ministry and the Catholic church were present to witness the celebrations.

For the students, such a celebration meant a lot to them.

Most of them cannot speak or hear and their actions through songs and dancing were the only way to express their gratitude to their mothers.

Br George thanked all who turned up for the program.
