OUR Party interim leader, Manasseh Sogavare plans to review the Facilitation Act governing the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands (RAMSI) if he leads the next government.
Mr Sogavare has been an outspoken critic of RAMSI’s presence in the country.
He told the Solomon Star: “OUR Party of which I am one of the eight trustees support RAMSI’s role to help maintain law and order in the country.
"However, Our Party will review the facilitation Act governing the operation of the intervention mission to clarify its role, functions, engagement plans and its programmes of action to ensure these activities are aligned with approved government policies and are consistent with the country’s laws."
RAMSI came here in 2003 at the request of Parliament to restore law and order.
It was being led by Australia, which also provided most of the funds to keep the mission’s operations going.
All members of the Pacific Islands Forum contributed personnel to the mission.
