FORMER Opposition leader and outgoing MP for East Choiseul, Manasseh Sogavare says he was not surprised at results of a survey Transparency Solomon Islands carried out on MPs attendance and contribution to debates.

The survey found Mr Sogavare contributes more to parliamentary debates than his colleagues.

He also attended the highest number of parliament sitting than other MPs.

“I am not at all surprised at the results,” he told the Solomon Star.

“The actions of leaders and how they conduct themselves in Parliament is an open book to our people.

“Members of Parliament are integral component of the parliament decision-making process and hence are expected to take active part in the process.

“As a matter of fact the judgment is consistent with the principle of democracy.

“The ultimate judge of MPs’ performance in parliament is the people."

A result survey carried out in East Honiara also found Mr Sogavare to be the most preferred prime minister after this year’s election.

"I am also not surprised at this result,” he said.

“As a matter of fact the choice is consistent with the people’s view on what leadership should be and what our people consider as important.

“The choice would normally reflect a leader’s position on national issues.

“I do not have to labour myself to outline that position because it is common knowledge."
