Hon. David Day Pacha, Supervising Minister of Education and Human Resources Development also witnessed the ceremony.

Ambassador Chan told Prime Minister that education and human resources development are top priority projects to any government as they are a strong foundation for a national economic growth.

Ambassador Chan believed that this project would assist in removing the school fees, so more children can gain an education opportunity.

Literacy will be enhanced as well to meet the UN Millennium Development Goal requirements. This project not only benefits school children but also parents, because the family will have more money available for other important priorities.

This project support will definitely strengthen education cooperation between our two countries.

Ambassador George Chan further stated that Taiwan devotes itself to improving the education in Solomon Islands through the various education activities, such as providing Taiwan Scholarship, annual tertiary education scholarship, short-term training courses and donating teaching materials.

The ROC (Taiwan) Government will continue to support this kind of education project in the future.

On behalf of the Government of Solomon Islands, Prime Minister Dr. Derek Sikua expressed the sincere gratitude and appreciation for the Government of ROC (Taiwan)‘s continuing financial support.
