The mother said the incident could have been avoided if MV Bikoi uses tyres to avoid direct contact with the wharf.
The Batuna student who was originally from Isabel province died instantly on June 14 at Noro when MV Bikoi crashed him against the jetty.
Reports said the student jumped onto the wharf but unfortunately slipped off and was left hanging at the jetty side before the ship crashed him with the jetty.
The mother said it was a very unfortunate incident but urges ship operators to uphold all sea requirements.
“I appeal to ship operators and other transport operators to ensure they care about safety and not money.
“If the vessels have tyres released beside the ship to avoid direct contact, the incident could have been avoided, so it is a lesson to ship owners.
“And all ship should announce to passengers that they are approaching a jetty to warn off passengers.
However it is understood, ships only use tyres to avoid any direct contact with a jetty which might cause damage to the vessel or the jetty.
The mother said she decided to come out publicly to warn the public.
“This unfortunate incident happened to my son therefore we don’t want it to happen again – it’s a wake up call for ship operators and travelers.
“It is a situation we do not want any other families to go through.”
She said it is important for ship operators to care for passengers and also avoid overloading.
“Overloading is also one problem with ship operators that sooner or later we’ll see a tragic incident if they fail to uphold that significant safety rule.
