Gloria Sibisopere declared to residents there she’s contesting the West New Georgia-Vona Vona seat, last held by Peter Boyers.
“My election platform centres on livelihood for people in the rural areas,” Ms Sibisopere told the Solomon Star in a phone interview.
“My aim is to provide quality leadership for women in this constituency and the country as a whole,” she said.
Ms Sibisopere said she believes in strong leadership and good governance.
“This is why I think it’s about time for women to enter politics for the sake of this nation.
“It’s important for women to be in Parliament because I see honesty in their leadership.
“If more women are up there, I’m sure there will be accountability and transparency in the use of constituency development funds.”
Ms Sibisopere said she was happy with the good turn out of people during the launch of her election platform.
She said different church groups turned up to witness the event.
“I just want to encourage women who are interested to contest the election to go for it.”
Ms Sibisopere said she’s contesting as an independent candidate.
