Local doctors spoke on issues related to drugs, smoking, self esteem, personal hygiene and diseases.
One of the youth leaders Ghuapitu Milton told the Solomon Star that that health awareness was one of the programs planned for the week.
He said three local doctors spent part of the morning speaking to youths mostly Adventist students from around the country who converged into Honiara for the week’s program.
Mr Milton said ta doctor spoke on maintaining clean teeth and avoiding eating too much betel nut, smoking which led to mouth and lung cancer.
Another doctor reminded the youths about maintaining personal hygiene as part of boosting their self esteem.
The youths were told that involving in sex, drug and alcohol can also lower their self esteem.
Mr Milton said that another medical doctor reminded the students that eating of wrong food, which are refined is not good for their health and could lead to heart problems and diabetes which were now on the rise.
President of the Solomon Islands Mission (SIM) Pr Andrew Kingston spoke to the youths about music which is affecting youths today.
He said that the types of music youths listen to can affect their christain lives and values.
Mr Milton described the two sessions as very rewarding.
The Adventist Tertiary Students Association (ATSA) congress will end this weekend.
