POLICE continued to crackdown on alcohol related offences and antisocial behaviour and have conducted several patrols across Honiara and surrounding communities over the weekend.
Police patrols targeted areas of White River, the Honiara Central Business District at Point Cruz, China Town and the Burns Creek area during which several arrests were made in relation to antisocial behaviours and other minor alcohol related offences.

One of the police patrols responded to an alcohol related incident near the Kukum Market area during which two men were arrested for assault.

The two men were believed to be under the influence of alcohol when they allegedly assaulted another male who received minor facial injuries and was taken to the National Referral Hospital for treatment

“Police is not tolerating such activities which might be generally preserved as minor alcohol issues but such behaviour when disregarded or unattended often leads to more serious offences such as robbery, assaults or even murder,” Acting Assistant Commissioner of Operations, Chief Superintendent Nela Mosese said.

Mr Nela said he was pleased with the outcome of operation over the weekend and highlighted the importance of police continuing patrols focusing on antisocial behaviours and other alcohol related offences.

“I am pleased with the results of the police operation over the weekend and I like to commend the officers who were involved in the various patrols that were conducted in and around Honiara and surrounding areas,” Mr Mosese said

“In any community antisocial and undesirable behaviours are not welcomed and likewise, the people of Solomon Islands deserved to be given the right to a peaceful and safe society,” he said.

Chief Superintendent Mosese also accentuated the importance of working together by police and community as the only effective means to address such issues.

“Addressing antisocial issues in any community is always complicated but not impossible and such can be achieved through a closer working relationship by the police and the community,” he said.

“We will continue with our patrols targeting hot spot areas and our officers will continue to lookout for public nuisances and other antisocial behaviours,” he said.
