ATTENDING a one day workshop last week organized by Women in Shared Decision Making (WISDM) I manage to hook up with three intending women candidates who will contest in the upcoming National General Election.

Cathrine Pule a teacher by Profession who will be contesting the Ngella seat is from the People’s Congress Party said their party prioritises Unity, Peace and Justice which are three important things in life.

She said since Solomon Islands gained Independence in 1978 men who go into Parliament forget about women and youth.

Ms Pule said women should be represented in Parliament to raise issues affecting the youths and women in the country.

Hilda Kii who is also a teacher by Profession contesting for  the North West Guadalcanal seat said she wanted to contest because she believed that leadership should be shared among men and women.

“We should include women in Parliament to give them opportunity to involve in high level discussions in Parlilament so that together both men and women should decide and act together to move this country forward,” she said.

Hellen Saera Hilli who will be contesting for the Marovo seat joins the People’s Congress Party  said she wanted to contest in the election because for so long people of Marovo constituency have suffered a lot.

Ms Hilli said she wanted to help people in the constituency start with simple things so that they can develop.

“My heart aches a lot to see children paddling to boarding schools and women suffer by paddling in canoes to look for their families needs,” she said.

Ms Hilli said she believes that it’s through making simple things for people to start with that can help them rather than making huge promises that can’t be fulfilled.

“My motto is make money with zero dollars,” she said.

However the 18 women  were confirmed to contest in the National General election on August 4th next month.
