Deputy Police Commissioner Walter Kola made the appeal yesterday.
He said police will stop suspicious vehicles and those with defective tyres and poor lighting.
“Drivers please make sure you carry your licences, third party and insurance cover with you whenever you drive and please coorperate with police officers in this operation and show them the appropriate documents when asked,” he said.
Mr Kola said this is to ensure that police carry out their operation effectively and efficiently.
He said police will be working closely with the Inland Revenue to ensure tit is an effective process to administer the process of vehicle checking.
Mr Kola said as a person observing the operation he was quite happy with the way police officers show interest and willingness to perform.
He also urged people who are using vechiles for their campaigns not to overload the trucks because this is endangering lives of people.
“Candidates please make sure that there is enough capacity in your vehicles to carry your supporters and make sure they sit safely in the vehicles.
“If your supporters are in order then you are abiding by the law and also please when you carry out your campaign respect the law.”
Mr Kola is the operation commander for the national elections.
