Aust resumes search for missing people

E-mail Print
AUSTRALIA has resumed a search and rescue mission for three men who went missing in the Temotu Province last week.

The search resumed after receipt of sporadic satellite phone transmissions believed to be from the missing boat.

The three were travelling from the Reef Islands to provincial capital Lata when their boat ran into mechanical problem.

Search and Rescue office in Honiara originally received a distress call from the trio on the 20th of July and requested the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) to assist in the search on the 22nd of July.

A Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) C-130 Hercules was unable to locate the outboard motor after three days searching and returned to Australia at the direction of AMSA on the 25th of July.

AMSA requested Defence on behalf of the Rescue Centre Honiara to again provide an aviation asset to assist in the search after Solomon Islands authorities received the satellite phone transmissions.
