The Sistas Savve program, which is funded by Family Planning International New Zealand, will also incorporate information about sexual and reproductive health using a rights-based approach.
Family Planning International New Zealand will continue to provide ongoing technical support for the implementation of this program.
The name ‘Sistas Savve’ was chosen by the young women involved in establishing the program because it translates as both ‘girls know’ and ‘girls can’, which acknowledges young women’s resilience, abilities and potential.
This is the first time that SIPPA and YWCA have worked together in a formal partnership and both organisations are looking forward to learning from each other’s skills and expertise.
"Improving sexual and reproductive health outcomes for young women means that they will be able to live happier, healthier and more productive lives" said YWCA General Secretary, Alice Kale.
SIPPA Executive Director, Michael Salini added that "sexual health does not have to be taught in isolation from other topics or in a traditional classroom setting”.
The Sistas Savve program aims to incorporate information about sexual and productive health rights into a broader training program that will equip young women with a range of useful life skills".
SIPPA and YWCA will be recruiting a Program Coordinator for the Sistas Savve program in the coming weeks, details can be found on the YWCA website www.ywcasolomons.com or by contacting either SIPPA or YWCA during office hours.
