Dennis Marita made the comments yesterday.
Speaking at a press conference, Mr Marita said the government hardly provides scholarship for artists to undertake overseas training.
“It’s sad to see local artists being over-looked all the time,” Mr Marita said.
“Many of them have the skills and potential. They only need to be given the relevant training to improve those skills,” he said.
Mr Marita said Solomon Islands has a lot of talented artists both in performing and visual arts.
He said because of lack of training opportunities, you see potential artists roaming the streets other than contributing positively to the country.
Mr Marita urged the government to reconsider its stance of local artists.
