THE yearly Pacific chiefs of police conference will continue this year and deputy police commissioner Walter Kola is attending.

The four-day conference, which will be held in Brisbane next week, will be attended by a total of 21 police chiefs in the region.

This year's issues to be discussed range from sharing of views in relation to law enforcement matters, intelligent sharing, investigation expertise, domestic violence and alcohol related issues.

Mr Kola will be accompanied by Superintendent Daniel Hunikera.

Police commissioner Peter Marshall said he will not be attending because of the important tasks ahead.

"It is important that the commissioner is here for the election of the Prime Minister and the subsequent briefings of the Minister of Police and other ministers who may be identified before too long."

He said he look forward to receiving results and recommendations of the conference.
