A MAN accused of stabbing his neighbour using a kitchen knife has been committed to stand trial in the High Court.

This was after a magistrate found sufficient evidence against the accused.

Fred Olofia is charged with one count of attempted murder and one count of grievous harm.

He allegedly committed the offences at Okea on the Guadalcanal plains on May 29 this year.

Principal Magistrate Mekeo Gauli said the prosecution provided enough evidence that warrants the matter to be referred to the High Court for trial.

The accused in his record of interview denied stabbing a woman, saying instead she stabbed herself.

He claimed this happened when he was defending himself from the woman’s attack.

The accused was alleged to have first slapped the woman.

She was stabbed on the right side of her neck.
