Moti: No intention to return here

Mr Moti
FORMER Attorney General Julian Moti yesterday reacted strongly to statements new Prime Minister Danny Philip made about him.

Mr Moti, who was at the centre of the diplomatic row between Solomon Islands and Australia during former prime minister Manasseh Sogavare, said he has no intention to return here.

"I made it very clear to both Danny and Steve that I have no intention of returning to the Solomons in the role of Attorney General," he said.

He said his long outstanding contractual dues still remain to be a matter of principle and justice.

“My entitlement to be duly paid my long-outstanding contractual dues is acknowledged by all to be a matter of principle and justice, irrespective of what RAMSI, its advisers or the Australian Government and its bureaucrats may want and demand."

He reiterated that what the Sikua led government did to him when they came into power in 2007 was a violation of laws.

“What the Sikua Government was forced to choose to do to me in broad daylight on December 27, 2007 by kidnapping me from my home and expelling me to Australia in violation of the laws of Solomon Islands and international refugee law as well as an operative court order is disgraceful and despicable.

"Only a country like Australia treats people of my shade and outlook in that unjust fashion with utter contempt for the laws they police off-shore."

Mr Philip told journalists on the day he was elected said the answer to any thoughts that Mr Moti will be re-engaged is "No".

"The issue is currently before the Australian courts but if you want to know whether I will re-engage that particular person as Attorney General, the answer is NO.

"We have experienced Solomon Islanders who are more than capable for the post."

Mr Philip said he will be recommending the name of the next Attorney General to the Judicial and Legal Services Commission soon.

"But that person will not be from overseas."
