Gizo Institute of Electrical and Technology is an initiative of Ryna Aquillah from Marovo Lagoon, a qualified “A” Grade licensed electrician.
The school started off with 13 male students.
According to Mr Aquillah, the school is part of the rehabilitation of the human resource of Western Province after the tsunami tragedy in 2007 which left many young people roaming the streets and losing hope of a brighter future.
“This electrical school is not a business but it is a service that provides our young people with electrical skills that will support them further in their future,” Mr Aquillah said.
He said the aim is to produce skillful and resourceful electricians who are competent and willing to serve communities and nation.
Deputy Premier of Western Province, Robert Pye Kuve, who opened the school, congratulated Mr Aquillah for the initiative.
He offered the province’s support for the school.
