Over 700 guests, former students and teachers based in the country and abroad attended the celebration.
Chung Wah was first registered as a school in August 1950 in response to the increasing numbers of Chinese children in Solomon Islands in the late 1940s.
In its first year, there were only four classes with the enrollment of 25 students.
Initially, all the students were ethnic Chinese but in the 1980s, the policy changed and the School was opened to all children from China and Solomon Islands.
After 60 years the school has produced the human resources for the country from key public servants, teachers, community workers as well as successful business people.
Celebration activities include a major raffle draw, School Open Day on Friday followed by a dinner function on Saturday night.
Chairman of the Chinese Association Mathew Quan said it is a great pleasure for the associations to see plenty of former students and teachers come to reunites as the schools turns 60.
He said Chung Wah was iniatially started by group of volunteers to teach children from Chinese community in Honiara.
“Today as we relect back I’m proud to say that the schools have breeds leaders from all sectors of working places,” he said.
During the celebration fund raising activities was also organized to raise funds to rebuild the school.
More than $180,000 was raised during the night.The event had brought some of the former students living abroad to be part of the celebrations.
