Media reports over the weekend suggested Mr Rini moved to the Opposition after Prime Minister Danny Philip gave the finance portfolio to Gordon Darcy Lilo.
The finance and planning portfolios are two of the three ministries that were not filled when Mr Philip unveiled his cabinet last Friday.
It’s understood Mr Lilo and Mr Rini have been fighting over the finance portfolio, resulting in the delayed announcement.
Both Mr Rini and Mr Lilo took their oaths before Governor General Sir Frank Kabui this afternoon.
Mr Lilo is the new finance minister.
