And he urged Prime Minister Danny Philip to substantiate the truth from rumours to avoid misleading the nation.
Mr Abana said the Opposition Group has been meeting to organise its members for the important watchdog role ahead of them.
“It is unfortunate that the Prime Minister had seen it fit to respond to such fabricated reports,” Mr Abana said.
“The Opposition has been meeting to organise its members for the important watchdog role ahead of us and not in any of their meetings have they discussed moving a motion of no confidence against the prime minister.
“The statements issued by the prime minister were nothing more than a desperate attempt to tarnish the image of the Opposition which has been upholding the principles of democracy in its bid to form the government over the past few weeks.”
Mr Abana said his group will perform its watchdog role effectively to ensure an effective government.
He also rejected speculations by Prime Minister Philip that the absence of the Opposition from the funeral of the late MP for Short lands, Steve Laore was political.
He said the MPs in the Opposition Group did not attend because they were not informed of the interment by the organisers and in this case it was the National Parliament Office.
‘It was unfortunate that Opposition was not present at the funeral of our fallen parliamentary colleague and it was not intentional.
“We were expecting the National Parliament Office to inform us of the programme for the funeral.
“The National Parliament Office is responsible for the organisation of the funeral of an MP.”
Mr Abana said the Opposition was among the first to have issued their condolence statement on the national broadcaster to families of the late Laore.
