SOLOMON Islands Translation Advisory Group (SITAG) and the Solomon Post yesterday celebrated their first day of issue of a newly produced stamp.

The “CELEBRATING BIBLE TRANSLATION’’ stamp was made possible through a partnership between SITAG and the Philatelic Bureau.

SITAG came up with the idea of Producing the stamp to mark the declaration of 2008 as the Year of the Bible and to recognise of the efforts of bible translation in the country.

The art works and designed of the stamp was made by SITAG and then later forwarded to the Philatelic Bureau.

It contained symbols representing the events highlighted during the celebration of the Year of the Bible in 2008.

From the upper left of the stamp there is a symbol representing the arrival of the gospel to the islands.

Lower left of the stamp represents the people rushing to purchase the bible after the thankgiving service.

Lower right of the stamp represents people reading the word of God in their own language.

In the centre of the stamp was an open bible with a block features two bible verses taken from the Pijin bible launced in 2008.

During the celebration Dr Alpheaus Zobule from the Bible Society of South Pacific high lighted the significance of the bible translation in the Solomon Islands and the remaining tasks.

He said the translation work started 30 years ago and that there were tasks that yet to be carried out.

Julian Rove, senior Philatelic officer, said the production of the new stamp is an achievement that will benefit her department as well as the work of SITAG.

The Philatelic Bureau produced six thousand stamps, which were now out for sale as of yesterday.
