NEW Zealand Government has come to the rescue of Solomon Islands Water Authority (SIWA) to fund an accountant for the company.

Phil Bradford, chairman of SIWA said the fund will provide them to recruit a temporary accountant to oversee the company’s finance.

“SIWA is pleased to acknowledge the prompt response of the New Zealand High Commission in its request for assistance in funding a local accounting firm to assist with the management of SIWA’s accounts and funds,” Mr Bradford said.

He explained that the funding will provide SIWA with a qualified and competent person for a month while the position is advertised.

“In that period the appointee will assist in various areas of management including overdue reports and sets of accounts as well as restructuring the administration of SIWA,” he said.

A brief ceremony was held in the SIWA board room on where the funds were handed over to SIWA by the New Zealand High Commissioner Mark Ramsden.

SIWA was without an accountant after the removal of the accountant and the general manager last month.
