THE council remains in limbo after it was dissolved last Thursday.
Under the City Act 1999, an election should take place straight after the dissolution of the council.
In such situation, the incoming Minister of Home Affairs should consider two options to keep alive legality of having a council.
1) Re-appoint the outgoing councillors for care-taking role until an election is held while similarly minister to declare date of election.
2) Appoint a caretaker group (form of an Authority) to run the council until election time.
However, Minister for Home Affairs and Deputy Prime Minister, Manasseh Maelanga said the hold up was due to lack of funding in the Council and the previous councillors like to revise the Honiara voters list.
Mr Maelanga told the media yesterday after looking at funds and voters list, the Ministry will set a date for the Council election.
"The Ministry is working on areas of legal instrument where I will sign it.
"During that time, the ministry will work on budget and see how much to run the Honiara city Council elections," he said.
However, Mr Maelanga said this should happen after the election of Speaker and completion of Parliament issues.
The election of Speaker is set down for tomorrow when the night parliament goes into its first session.
The city councillors were elected on 26th August 2006.
