Literacy body launches second book

LITERACY Association of Solomon Islands (LASI) had launched its second book on literacy at the Maranatha Hall, East Honiara, Wednesday.

Book 2 consists of six books produced in pijin materials and vernacular languages by LASI.

Two pijin books are learning materials and “reprodaktiv helt blong olketa woman (mere)”.

The four vernacular language books are produced in Guadalcanal (2-books), Malaita and Makira languages.

LASI National Coordinator Priscilla Maeniata said the books are the next level of the first literacy book (book-1) that was launched in 2009.

She said the books will be used in literacy schools around the country.

Ms Maeniata said those who are interested to learn pijin learning materials, the books will be available to them at LASI office.

She thanked Literacy Network Solomon Islands, Mothers Union and SITAG (Solomon Islands Translation and Advisory Group) for their contribution to the books.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education Mylyn Kuve launched the books.

Ms Kuve thanked LASI for their effort to produce the books.

She said the country needs these kinds off books to support women who cannot read and write.
