CYCLONE Tomas is now likely to make landfall on Monday with winds of up to 200km/hr.

Earlier projections showed that Tomas was likely to make landfall over Vanua Levu early tomorrow.

But the Category 2 cyclone remains slow moving about 600km north-northeast of Vanua Levu.

On its current track, wind and rain generated by the cyclone should begin to affect northern areas early on Sunday.

But as it intensifies, Tomas is expected to become a Category 4 cyclone with devastating winds of up to 200km/kr.

Australian meteorologists who are closely monitoring the cyclone say that landfall is unlikely before Monday morning.

But they have stressed that people must make preparations for the cyclone immediately and take advice from DISMAC.
