Papua New Guinea Health Minister Sasa Zibe says the country is running out of anti-retroviral treatment for HIV/AIDS patients.

He says medical supplies will be exhausted by August.

The government is appealing to international aid agencies for funding.

Mr Zibe says PNG has the highest number of people with HIV/AIDS receiving this treatment in the Asia Pacific region.

He has also told the National, there's no scientific proof that herbal treatment is a cure for the deadly disease despite herbal treatment being a way of life for 86% of rural Papua New Guineans.

Mr Zibe also says the National AIDS Council is concerned churches may be misleading people with HIV/AIDS into believing they are truly healed if they just pray.--radio australia
