Auga’s cup underway

THE 2016 Augustine Auga’s annual Christmas Cup 7-a-side soccer competition is currently underway in Lau/Mbaelelea Constituency, Malaita Province after its inaugural opening yesterday.

The tournament will run until 30th December 2016

It is being supported by the Member of Parliament (MP) for the constituency Augustine Auga.

Games will be held at the Kafoere playing ground.

A member of the sports committee Sammy Liosulia earlier told Star Sports that a similar event hosted last year’s has attracted more than 100 teams from ward 6, 9 and ward 10 adding this year they are expecting a huge number of teams to take part.

Mr Liosulia added that a eleven aside competition is also organised for soccer oldies which includes men from age 40 years and above.

“The game will only feature two teams which is Hasi FC (Sea people) verses Tolo FC (Bush people). This special competition is to ensure oldies soccer players or old age people (Olo’s) are part of the competition to ensure they too enjoy and felt the Christmas festivity,” Liosulia said.

For ladies a volley ball competition is also being organised for them.

He said, great prizes plus trophies are up for grab adding prizes will be remain the same as it is from last year’s (2015) games for soccer and volleyball.

Mr Liosulia said, the main focus of the event is to bring young and old people together and ensure community participation and also to engage young people in sporting activities rather than involving in unlawful activities during this festive session.

The competition for this year will be tough as teams are well prepared for the tournament.

This is another exciting moment for the constituency since they are hosting another Christmas Game for soccer and volleyball lovers in the constituency with an exciting inclusion of Olo’s eleven aside soccer competition.
