The current Telekom S-league top of the table team, Western United was reported to have resumed early trainings following the Christmas break.

According to reports Western United resumed training on Wednesday at the Ports sports field.

All of their players are reported to be back to training and upbeat about pushing on the great work they have done up to the Christmas break and taking it into the remaining half of the season.

“We are also looking forward and positive about the remaining half of the season,” said Felix Ray Junior the Western United goal keeper.

The team lead by Coach Stefan Metanomski have a big job on their hands from now on making sure that the team is ready and focused for the remaining matches of the season when the S-league resume matches next month.

They have to make sure that the team is ready to continue the hard work they started at the beginning of the season so as to maintain their place at the top of the league.

Maintaining the top spot for the remaining matches qualifies them for a shot in representing the Solomon Islands in the upcoming 2012-2013 O’league season.

Western United has been impressive throughout the first round of the league.

They opened with a win against KOSSA and have only dropped points once, against Koloale whom they lost to 3-1.

The strength of the Western United game is centered on the ability of the players to move around the pitch rapidly, thus, giving them more options in attack.

The pace of Nathan Kera was often key in their attack but Moffat Kilifa always offers additional options on the right.

At times the Western United backline has been questionable but overall they have done well by keeping their opponents busy in their own half.

One of the key ingredients in their winning ways this season is probably an instilled sense of discipline in the players and their coach Stefan Metanomski plays a key role in this area.

The challenge for Western United in the second round is to stay ahead of the chase that will come from Koloale and Solomon Warriors.

Western United currently lead the TSL table tally with 15 points from six matches played, won five and lost one to Koloale FC.

Malaita maintains second place with 13 points followed by Solomon Warriors and Koloale on third and fourth place respectively both with 12 points.
