This was confirmed by one of Solomon Islands national players, Michael Fifi yesterday.
Fifi said they were called upon by the tournament organizers to take part in tournament to showcase Pacific Islands’ beach soccer skills which will help to boost the toughness of the tournament.
“Since Solomon Islands is well known for their beach soccer performance tournament organisers wanted to include Solomon Island’s New Zealand based players to create a tough competing environment,” he said.
He added the team is known as the Island Boys beach soccer team and is comprised of a combination of Solomon Islands and Vanuatu players.
“Marist Fire FC striker, Abraham Iniga and Brian Kaltak of Vanuatu are in the team, we all are confident to put on a good performance,” he said.
Island Boys will be playing Team Exodus for their opening match followed by VAMOS in the second and Kronic United for their final pool match.
Pool Games followed by a knock out competition with a 'plate' section for teams knocked out in the first round.
The tournament that coincides with the Wellington Anniversary Day is a one day tournament organised to help pick out potential beach soccer players for New Zealand’s national beach soccer team.
At the same time it is played for leisure, team play, friendship, and healthy competition.
