The general secretary of the Solomon Islands Football Federation, Eddie Ngava has called on all Provincial Football Associations (PFA’s) to start their football leagues in their respective provinces.
This is so they can be qualified to receive more football training programs from SIFF.
Ngava made the call yesterday during SIFF’s extra ordinary congress yesterday.
He said the thought behind starting provincial football leagues was to support SIFF to register players directly from the province and avoid criticisms about selecting players only in Honiara.
He added that staging their own provincial league will also aid to identify elite talents from provinces through the league and other programs which will be delivered by SIFF.
The main idea behind the call was to help the development of football in the rural areas and update respective PFA’s with new changes in football codes.
Ngava was responding to comments made by PFA’s regarding the request for SIFF to reach out to the provinces and introduce more football development programs to select elite players from the provinces rather than selecting Honiara based players.
The respond was also linked to the call for SIFF to help maintain the strength of the Solomon Islands futsal and beach soccer standard.
Ngava clarified that whilst SIFF will help maintain the standard of futsal and beach soccer in the country the continuous development of 11-a-side football code must not be ignored.
SIFF president, Martin Alufurai reiterated stating that SIFF as a development organization must address the three football code at the same time.
He said the only challenge to such approach is the cost for all the programs.
Despite the challenges SIFF has put in place its programs for this year and is confident to once again end this year achieving its aims and goals.
