Maelasi said the new executive’s first move is to address its strategic plans.
“It’s a big task for the new executive, there are a couple of issues that needs to be addressed and solved quickly.
“We are going to take things step by step to achieve our goals,” he said.
The new executive will have their first meeting since being elected as new office bearers on Sunday.
He said the meeting will held to discuss ways to address important issues such as ways of getting sponsorship to support its programs and deal with outstanding fees which he described as a hiccup recently experienced by the federation.
He stressed nothing much has been done the whole of last year so the federation is looking at taking a much tougher approach to deal with the issues affecting the development of chess in the country.
“The SICF would really like to take stock of things and look deep within the organization in terms of leadership and management aspect of the federation and decide on the next move to take,” he said.
This year is a big year in World chess and the Chess Olympiad will be held in Istanbul, Turkey around August and September and Solomon Islands as a member of FIDE is entitled to send a team to participate.
However Maelasi said for a start the federation is not really concentrating in organising competitions as they still have important issues to address before organising any competitions.
