The Solomon Islands Paralympics Committee has successfully launched its first fundraising drive over the weekend.

Speaking to the Star Sports yesterday, SIPC vice president Fa’amoana Topue revealed that this was only a start of a series of fundraising events line up on their Calendar for this year.

“It’s a good start, it was successful a lot of people showed support towards the first event and that’s a positive sign,” he said.

He explained that the money raised will go towards sending and supporting the selected athletes with disabilities to New Zealand and Australia for athlete classification.

Athlete classification is an important part in the qualification to participate in the upcoming 2012 London Paralympics Games in August.

He confirmed that the athletes have started trainings three times a week for the past weeks following weeks of heavy rain which interrupted their training programs.

He said the SIPC is looking forward for more support for the athletes with disabilities.
