Central Islands Provincial Sport Association (CIPSA) has recommended the three sporting federations engaged in the National Olympic junior program to must extend the programs down to children in the villages.

They made this recommendation following the great interest shown by school children who attended the program.

The children from grade one to six participated in the program that was aimed at introducing the basic rules and general aspects of each sport.

The program is an approach undertaken by NOCSI that is inline with the International Olympic Committees plans of developing young athletes at an early stage.

Athletic Solomon development office Martin Rara says so far the three sport federation programs have drawn great interest from the children.

“This program has just started but it is quite popular with the children”, he said.

“Officers from Athletic Solomon, Tennis and Volleyball were there to carry out the programs”.

The team will leave for Gizo in Western province to continue with the program into the New Year.

Meanwhile Mr Rara has called on other Federations to join in the program.

He said Wrestling, Netball and Table Tennis are expected to join them in the next program.

The program was initially planned to begin on the 28th of November till 5th of January but NOCSI decided to run the program in advance.

From Gizo the program will then continue on to Malaita province and then to Renell and Bellona.

Mr Rara said CIPSA was set up during the program and will now work in close partnership with NOCSI.
