HOPES are high for the Westside men’s basketball team of making it through to the next round of the Ela Motors open category competition.
This was after defeating Pinoy 50-39 in the men’s pool.
This was their first win after being defeated to Marist 1 in the opening match competition.
It was the highlighted match of the day and as expected the match kicked off on a high note with each side scoring points.
Westside who knew well that a loss would mean an early exit. They started off with a three points lead 9-6 for the first quarter.
Pinoy hits back, with the help of the Gwali brothers and their skillful players managed to take lead early in the second quarter.
Despite further scare from the Pinoy side Westside maintained their form and took lead in all remaining quarters of the match with scores, 21-18, 35-27 and 50-39 respectively.
Most of the points were from three points thanks to the hot hands of their play maker, point guard Philip Tuhaika who scored more than 80 percent of his three points shots.
Their next match will be against Marist 2 this Sunday.
Meanwhile in other matches Travel Blazers also had their hopes set for the next round after defeating Andel 59-16, Defenders narrowly escaped the determined Lakers side 25-24 and Marist 1 showed no mercy to its junior team Marist 2 thrashing them by 85-15 to stay atop of pool A.
