The Guadalcanal cup
(G-Cup) championship is now set to kick of this weekend in Honiara. The opening
ceremony will be held today at Lawson Tama, starting at 8.00am.
Patrick Miniti president of Guadalcanal football association (GFA) said eight teams from the eight respective constituencies have confirmed their participation in the men’s category.
Two matches will be played at Lawson Tama while another two at KGVI south field.
The fixture for the first round is as follows;
1. South Guadalcanal vs. Central Guadalcanal at Lawson Tama, 11am;
2. North East Guadalcanal vs. West Guadalcanal at Lawson Tama, 1pm;
3. North West Guadalcanal vs. North Guadalcanal at KGVI south field, 11am;
4. East Guadalcanal vs. East Central Guadalcanal at KGVI south field, 1pm.
Mr Miniti said they could not play four games at Lawson Tama on the same day they have have to play two games each match days for the first, second and third rounds respectively. The semi-finals and the finals will be played at Lawson Tama.
GFA asked the public at large and particularly the people of Guadalcanal Province who lives in and around Honiara to come and support the G-Cup tournament and their respective teams.
"GFA would also like to appeal to business houses to come forward and support this good cause. Allow the theme of the Championship; ‘Reaching our community through sports and uniting in sport’ transpire throughout the week long tournament.
"Thank you very much for your support and prayers," the president said.
