The Solomon Islands Basketball Federation (SIBF) is calling on all Executive Committee members including all affiliated Club Members, HBL Members, SIBF Team Members and anyone interested in basketball to attend a very important meeting tomorrow.
SIBF President Don Boykin said he is keen on getting the basketball year started as soon possible.
This is in response to the latest low profile status the sport has received in general and the need to kick start the sports aimed at getting into next year’s South Pacific Games.
Earlier this week National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands President Fred Maeto’oloa confirmed that basketball was amongst several other sporting codes listed under the “waiting list” for next year’s SPG in New Caledonia.
Mr Boykin on the other hand wants all those called to the meeting to make an effort to attend and help get the sport back on track.
Star Sports understand that basketball over the years have been snubbed by the sporting authorities due to their under par performance at the regional level.
However, the lack of proper development and support at the national level have always led to the demise of the sport, despite the presence of raw athleticism and basketball talent Solomon Islands continue to produce over the years.
The SIBF President wants an attitude change to the sport by supporters and players in order for the sport to grow.
Agenda for this meeting include the Senior & Junior League for this year, Solomon Games 2010; Affiliation Fees for FIBA, SIBF, the NOCSI Solidarity Fund, Sponsorship proposals and others items that will be brought up.
The meeting is scheduled to take place at Boykin’s residence starting at 11am.
