THE much awaited annual DJ Graphics beach soccer code 'Red' Championship kicks will off this morning at the DC Park beach near Henderson, east of Honiara.

Sponsored by DJ Graphic in co-operated with the Solomon Island Football Federation (SIFF) the tournament is set to be an entertaining one with displays of local raw talents on the beach.

The competition named 'Red' championship has been centered on the significance of the Allied landing on the Guadalcanal beach during WWII that eventually got the name Red beach. 

It was an operation code named 'Red'.

By having the name "Red" it does not depict blood or violence on the beach. 

The regulation guiding the tournament does not vet violence and this is a sporting tournament that breeds friendship and unity.

The tournament comprises of only 16 teams to be played in four pools comprising of four teams.

The winner of each pool will advance towards a final play-off on Sunday. 

Because its only a start in the annual tournament, only the men's team are taking part in the competition.     

         Most of the matches will be played by an open age category with the minimum age group of 17 years old born after  January 1st 1993 and a recommended mature age of up to 40 years old.

According to the organisers matches for pools A and B will be played today, whilst pool C and D matches will be played tomorrow.

Each pool match will play 3 periods of 10 minutes with at least one minute change-over time.

As drawn up and guided by the Honiara beach soccer league rules, SIFF-authorized referees DJ League clubs and any youth referees from schools will assist in officiating the matches.

Very attractive prizes are up for grab during the three days competition.

Each team will receive a commemoration certificate. 

The third placed team will receive a gift voucher valued at $1,200 from DJ Graphics Ltd. 

The second best team will receive a gift voucher valued at $2,000 from DJ Graphics Ltd. The Champion team will receive a cash prize of $4,000 from DJ Graphics Ltd. 

The team with the best spirit and behavior in the tournament will receive a gift voucher valued at $1,000 from DJ Graphics Ltd. 

The golden boot will receive a gift voucher valued at $300 from DJ Graphics Ltd.

Entrance is free of charge at DC Park

All teams, patrons and spectators will observe good order during the tournament and will respect the organizers.

Today's opening ceremony will be informal but a short closing ceremony will take place at DC Park on Sunday afternoon immediately after the grand final match. 

The closing may include an inaugural speech, presentations of prizes followed by musical entertainment.
