The country’s O-League rep Marist FC started off fresh with a 2-0 win over Naha FC in their first game of the year at Lawson Tama on Saturday.
Two goals from recruited player Joe Luwi and Commins Menapi were enough to keep Marist they are still on course in the league level.
Luwi hammered home the first goal half way through the game from a free kick awarded to them from unneccesary mistake from Naha goal keeper.
He passes the ball out from the penalty box.
Luwi with Michael Misitana and Lenson Besili before kicking the ball from a trick that caught goal keeper unprepared to defend the ball.
Naha keeper attempted to stop the ball but the force of the ball was too strong that it flip out from his glove and goes right onto the back of the net.
Naha had their early chance when striker Sikou only has the keeper to challenge him.
He tapped the ball on the right of Marist goal keeper Navasu Kito but the ball misses the goal post.
Naha had serveral chances to equalize but their shots always go onto wrong direction.
Marist from their lead continues searches for goal and it was paid off by Comins Menapi.
He scored from a timely pass receive from Michael Misitina in which he tricked the goal keeper before slotting it into the goal to extend their lead 2-0 at half time.
In the second spell Marist maintain their form avoiding Naha for converting any goal.
They keep the defence tight while making an effort to extend their goal but only manage to finish the game 2-0.
Their win ruled out perception of some spectators commenting a loss will give bad precedence for Marist.
The win also boost the team as they look forawd to meet Hekari South United of Papua New Gunea in final match of the 0-League on 28th March at Lawson Tama.
Marist currrently sits at the bottom of pool B with one points after drew with Tafea FC of Vanuatu recently.
A win for Marist against Hekari South United will not make any difference but will a pride for them to win at home ground.
A loss for them will allow Hekari FC go into the final play of the O-League.
Hekari with the guidence of local coaches Jerry Allan and Tommy and inclusion of five Solomon Island players Gideon Omokirio, Junior Faárodo, Alick Maemae, Joachim Waroi and Benjamin Mela are set to seek for nothing else but win.
