The 2013 Beach World Cup is coming to the pacific.
French Polynesia of Tahiti has been given the nod to host the sixteen-team competition.
This would mean Solomon Islands National Bilikiki boys will have to travel less time if they qualify for the world cup.
French Polynesia has been chosen to host the 2013 beach world cup , a decision made at FIFA executive committee in Zurich.
This was formally announced this week.
The Tahitian Football Federation said they are excited about the announcement.
Tahiti which usually host the beach championship for the region placed its bid for the 2013 event two years ago.
Media reports said Tahiti was selected ahead of world-class bidders Argentina, Brazil, South Africa, the Netherlands, Azerbaijan, Poland and Oman.
The successful bid by Tahiti means that French Polynesia will be the first pacific island country to host a world cup at the beach level.
Top beach teams around the world like Brazil will get to travel to the islands to participate in the competition.
Reynold Temarii, a former head of the French Polynesia football and current chair of the Oceania Football Confederation said its first event of this kind to be hosted by a Pacific Island country.
Media report said the competition is expected to inject a significant boost into the ailing local economy, as well as expose Tahiti as an international holiday destination.
Solomon Islands is currently the region’s defending champion in the beach code.
