The High Schools Easter Rugby 7s Tournament will be on again this coming school break and schools in and around Honiara are invited to get their teams registered for an event that is anticipated to be a great junior rugby tournament.

The tournament will be the first for High Schools in Honiara and the country for this year and is set to kick off on Thursday 8 April.

Attractive prizes are up for grab which will be finalized and made known to participating school teams and the general public later this week.

Last year the tournament attracted ten schools from Honiara who registered a total of 10 teams in the junior division and 6 teams in the senior division.

Junior rugby at the high school level had improved dramatically over the last three years and this year with no exception is hoped to showcase the best out of the countries young and upcoming rugby players who have so far indicated a promising future for rugby in the country.

Last year’s champions in the senior division, White River Community High School, will be out to defend their title, but with the likes of King George VI, Koloale and Honiara High in contention, we are in for a tough and spectacular competition at this level this year.

In the junior division, reigning champions from last year’s championship, King George VI School, appears to be still in control, however, with teams like Tenaru, White River and Honiara High School now in form it’s too early to make any conclusions.

The tournament will be played in two divisions, the junior boys, which will include students aged 16 down to 14 and the seniors, which will include students aged 17 and above.

Registration fee is $250 per team and can be paid to the SI Rugby Office at Town Ground.   Registration will close on April 6 at 1:00pm. School teams are also reminded that the tournament will be strict on uniforms, therefore teams must participate in full uniform.

Further information about the tournament can be obtained from the SI Rugby office at Town Ground and registration forms can be collected from there as well.

Going forward, the SI Rugby Development Department will also be hosting a National 7s Tournament for schools in July and a final legged tournament for Secondary Schools in Honiara in late September. For more information or enquiries contact the SI Rugby Development Office on phone 23102 or mobile 7488930.
